How did Dr Ashley Bloomfield respond to the petition by some for him to be nominated as New Zealander of the year?
He replied with his view of leadership.

This I see as a genuine call to change, to make a difference but delivered in a way that inspires others to act. So my question is, what makes it more compelling and easier for people to engage and get on board with change, even when it’s hard? I think the following is key and invite you to add your perspective:
- The TRUST Factor: This is trust and confidence in leadership integrity, credibility and care. Stephen Covey (*) points to critical trust builders like: walking the talk, honesty, positive intent (serving others not only self), having the required capabilities, knowledge and track record.
- CLARITY: On the destination, specific behaviours to get there and why it is worth it.
- Meaningful CONTRIBUTION: When we understand and believe that what we do makes a difference, we feel more connected to change.
- Role-model NEW HABITS: Leaders make the change journey easier by supporting and coaching people to build new skills and habits.
- Acknowledge challenges and BRIGHT SPOTS: Leaders have the courage to talk about and ask for help with what is tough. They also celebrate small wins and recognise everyone’s efforts.
